Question by Byron: Why did the Soviet Union Cyrillize some language but not others?
Some languages (Kazakh, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Azeri, etc) had their writing systems forcibly changed to cyrillic, but some other like Korean (spoken by the Korean population in Soviet Central Asia) and Armenian did not have to change their writing systems. Why is this so? Why were some languages forced to change the writing scripts but not others?
True, Koreans didn’t. But Armenians did, and they were still allowed to maintain their writing system and not have it Cyrillized.

I do not know, but I would guess because Koreans did not have a full Republic like the Kazakhs, Uzbeks, etc did.
