Question by Rae: What was the significance of Perchik being sent to Siberia in Fiddler on the Roof?
I thought it was because the filmmakers wanted to find a way to have Hodel join him and leave her family. That is probably wrong…?

In the Fiddler on the Roof (1971), it was not uncommon for “political dissenters” to be arrested and sent away. In Kiev, Perchik was arrested for his activism and sent to a Siberian workcamp.
