Would Alexei Romanov have been a good Russian Tsar?

Question by cfa_pilot: Would Alexei Romanov have been a good Tsar?
Do you think Alexei would have been a good Tsar?

I think he would. He was very compassionate and cared for other people. He understood pain because of his hemophilia.

Do you think he would have lived to be Tsar if things continued normally?

well, Rasputin (Grigory) supposedly prophecized that if he lived to be eighteen, he would be freed from hemophilia forever. but Rasputin was assassinated, so even if Alexei and his family had survived, I doubt he would’ve lived. a person can only take so many blood clots before serious health issues come about.

personally no. he would have the overall ideal mindset to be a good czar however he suffered from hemophilia as a young boy. if he was a sickly child then he would have been a very sickly adult and possibly would not have made it past 18 even if the romanov family was not brutally murdered.

There were a lot of other politicians in the government besides the Tsar. A compassionate Tsar could have been seen as threat to other aristocratic interests. Fair pay would mean higher expenses to the owner of businesses. Proper working hours would mean less profits to the business. Free education would mean more white collar workers less blue collar workers, it also meant educated people with left wing ideas entering politics changing values and demeaning the power of the aristocrats. You have have to be a good manipulator as well as compassionate to be a successful politician.
Alexei might have been nice, but he wasn't the smartest tool in the shed. Besides at the same time he was a prince he didn't see much beyond the walls of the palace. Chances are he would have been ignorant of the suffering outside plus considering most of his relatives were aristocrats and his friends likewise he would have felt more compassion for them having grown up with them as family and having personal ties to them, than a complete stranger demanding better pay.
