He composed all the music for the nut cracker and swan lake I believe. I’m not sure what symphony it’s a part of but I love his sleeping beauty waltz. It makes you feel like you’re on a cloud. Also the Overture of 1812 is played countless times in popular culture.

The Sixth. What a moving piece of music. I like the First too, the "Winter Daydreams" symphony.

If I had to pick a favorite, I would probably say No. 6 "Pathetique." Though it's certainly not his most popular, don't forget the No. 1 "Winter Daydreams." That one is pretty fun. The first movement is incredibly catchy.

I have always had a very soft spot for his most neglected symphony – No 3 in D major (his only major-key symphony and the only one in five movements), known as the 'Polish' Symphony because of its use of Polonaise and Mazurka rhythms in the two outer movements. Written around the same time as 'Swan Lake', it is full of wonderful lyrical melodies and a 'joie de vivre' not found elsewhere in his symphonic output. Check it out!

Also, please don't ignore the superb 'Manfred' Symphony (it comes between the 4th and 5th Symphonies but doesn't have a number). It is the largest and most ambitious of Tchaikovsky's symphonies and contains some of his best music.

You will find that the 4th, 5th, and 6th Symphonies are most people's 'favourites' and the most often performed (with No 5 being most popular of all), but please make-up your OWN mind and not just stick to other people's 'favourites'.

4,4,4,4,4,4,4,4,4, did I say his 4th, no? yeah his 4th! His 5th also, which, if you have ever seen the movie Australia, the, I believe 2nd movement was used at the end. Oh yeah, his 4th is my favorite. Heres a clip of the finale http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mctpTyIBt_I
    Thanks Aaron
