Did Russia help Serbia by declaring war on the Austro-Hungarian Empire?

Question by Glenn Harvey Fingler: Why do you think that Russia helped Serbia by declaring war on the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1914?
Solzhenitsyn wrote that friendship should stop short of self-immolation, in reference to this. The Russians knew that war with Austria-Hungary also meant war with Germany.

it was a mutual defense treaty

just as Austria-Hungary had one with Germany

and France and England had one with each other and Russia

was basically like dominoes, once one fell they all fell

    Russia went to war to help their Slavic brothers from the Lutheran invaders (Germans).
